Weight per m² is not specified in the PDF version of the EPD.
EPD can streamline construction
In 2023, we obtained an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) for the Walltec panel.
An EPD is a product declaration, much like the ones you find on everyday grocery items when checking the calorie or fat content.
So, when we say that an EPD can streamline construction, it's because the EPD serves as the architect's tool for adapting the building to the amount of CO₂e.
The architect has 12 kg CO₂e per m² available for a construction project. If this limit is exceeded by a single product, the architect must look for alternatives. Another product within the same category might have precisely the emissions needed to meet the limit. This way, the construction is streamlined to comply with the requirement—without compromising quality.
The Nerdy Explanation
The EPD is based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). As of January 2023, an LCA must be conducted for all new construction projects in Denmark.
When the architect calculates a building in an LCA system, each square meter is allowed a maximum emission of 12 kg CO₂e.
This is calculated in a system where data from the EPD specifies exactly what the product emits during all phases, from production to disposal. If an EPD is not available, the architect uses general figures, which are typically higher. Without an EPD, there is a risk of being excluded from selection for a new construction project.
For you as a customer, the fact that we have an EPD ensures that you have a detailed and certified analysis of our product. The EPD is verified by a third party according to stringent ISO standards.
